Important Photobucket Announcement
Dear Photobucket Friends:
As you may have already heard, today Photobucket announced that it has accepted an offer to be acquired by Fox Interactive Media (FIM), a division of News Corporation. This is a really big piece of news for us at Photobucket.
First and foremost, we expect nothing to change in our day-to-day operations. After the transaction is closed and finalized, the plan is to operate Photobucket as an independent, standalone company within FIM.
We plan to continue developing innovative tools that enhance self-expression and give you the best media sharing, linking and searching experience on the Web. Partnering with FIM will give us added resources and support to deliver on this vision, as well as the ability to offer new features for you -- our most important audience.
If you have questions or just want to drop us a line, write a comment here on the blog, or email us at pbsupport@photobucket.com. We read all your emails and messages. Keep them coming. And most importantly, keep all the great ideas coming.
I thank you for your support, and for all the ways you teach us what is truly meaningful about the Photobucket experience. We are extremely excited about Photobucket’s future, and look forward to continuing to bring you the very best personal media site in the world.
Regards,
Alex Welch, CEO, co-founder, Photobucket, Inc.
thanks alot. Just what I wanted to hear. To think now I'm helping line the pockets of rupert murdoch. All Murdoch knows to do is swipe something up with his millions and bit by bit destroy it. I'm glad the Wall Street Journal owners saw that and refused his bid for the publishing company.

UUHHGGGG. Not very excited. Slightly turned off by this news. I guess will see how Newscorp handles this little gem of a site. Congrats on building up a great site and being able to cash in on it (for real, after all that is the American way)

Will Photobucket still remain free to use?

"Bigger is not always better" not withstanding,I have NO problems with Fox - and as far as I can tell so far Photobucket is STILL GOOD.
Taking you at your word Alex and looking forward to neat new features. I have appreciated whatever dual coding has been involved to include MACs and hope that will continue.
Seems that nothing can be addressed without politics these days....sigh.... it gets so old...... seems jumping the ship so quickly is quite premature... and Photobucket has been one of those rare apolitical entities and I really don't expect that to change. Everyone deserves a chance before being harpooned.
My only concern..... do hope you're staying with us Alex. The support you've provided since day one has been super. Thanks much!

Ugh. There are so many problems with increasing corporatization of things in the world, and Fox is one of my least favorite corporations. Goodbye, Photobucket.

I hope you got a good deal in the sellout. However, because Fox is inherently evil, and MySpace sucks as well, I'll be turning off my autorenewal. I'll have to find a new photo hosting site. It's too bad, because I thought photobucket was good, and I like the lo-fi name. Hasta la vista.
